| Thallus epiphyllous, subcuticular, irregular, 5–20 (–25) mm wide, 8–15 µm thick, deeply lobate, the lobes divergent, confluent or overlapping, dark olive-green, ±smooth, dull to slightly glossy, bordered by a thin black line; photobiont Cephaleuros; prothallus not apparent. Perithecia superficial, prominent, subconical to subhemispherical, covered to the apex by a layer of thallus, 0.25–0.55 mm diam., black. Perithecial apex rounded to subacute. Involucrellum black, carbonaceous, extending to exciple base level, 20–30 µm thick. Exciple hyaline to brown, 10–15 µm thick. Centrum 0.15–0.30 mm diam. Paraphyses simple. Asci narrowly obclavate, 50–75 × 6–8 µm. Ascospores 1-septate, oblong-cylindrical, biseriate in the ascus, slightly to markedly constricted at the septum, 10–18 × 2–3 µm; cells not separating. Conidiomata: 1) superficial, hemispherical to verrucose, black, 0.1–0.2 mm diam., containing simple bacilliform macroconidia 4–6 × 1–2 µm; 2) similar but 0.07–0.12 mm diam., containing simple fusiform microconidia 4–5 × 1.0–1.5 µm. | ||
| Common on the leaves of rainforest trees and shrubs in eastern Qld and north-eastern N.S.W.; also on Christmas Island. Pantropical, and also found at subtropical and warm-temperate latitudes. | ||
